Our tannery was established in 1846 in Rondebosch, making us the oldest tannery in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest companies in South Africa. We are now situated in the beautiful town of Wellington in the Western Cape. Our family is currently two hundred strong. We love what we do. There is no greater satisfaction than delivering our products that assist our clients in reaching their own business goals and bringing their ideas to life. Every person on our staff is committed to providing you with the highest-quality leather.

1.Employment

Mossop Leather employs two hundred individuals in the making of our team. Our staff is reflective of the region’s ethnic demographic representation.

2.Markets

We export leather to Europe, the Indian sub-continent and the Far East. Mossop Leather has set the standard for the highest quality leathers since 1846. We offer a wide range of tannages Footwear and uphlostery Leathers. Our leather is processed at our location on the corner of Blignaut and Cavernelis in Wellington, Western Cape, RSA.

3.Location

Wellington is situated at the foot of the Groenberg on the banks of the Kromme Rivier (Dutch for Bend River) and forms the center of the Cape Winelands with its picturesque environment and numerous wineries. The town is at the base of one of the oldest mountain passes in South Africa, Bain's Kloof Pass.

4.Shareholders

It is a privately owned company with the Rahman (India), Bolton and Beier families(ZA) being the shareholders, which gives a footprint both locally and abroad.

5.Production

We have the capacity to produce 2,000,000 ft square of shoe upper and upholstery leather and 600,000 ft square of laminated split leather per month.

6.TEK-TAN®

The company proudly owns the Tek-Tan brand name which is widely used by the prominent school shoe factories in the country as the preferred upper leather.

7.Garden

We are the first tannery in the world who are committed to plant a (Porkbush)Portulacaria Afra garden and will reserve half a hectare to grow this wonderplant.
